Vodafone Australia CEO Inaki Berroeta has slammed the Australian government for banning Chinese telecommunications vendor Huawei from participating in the forthcoming nationwide rollout of 5G and has said that the operator should be entitled to compensation.

The Department of Telecommunications in India offers a conditional approval to Bharti Airtel’s planned acquisition of Tata Teleservices (TTSL) on the condition that the operator provides a bank guarantee of $1.23 billion (85 billion rupees) to cover spectrum charges.

U.S. security concerns about 5G mobile networks built by Chinese telecoms giant Huawei appear to be driven by politics and trade rather than any evidence, the head of the U.N. internet and telecoms agency said on Friday.

On Friday, the chipmaker, Samsung Electronics was warned of a potential 60 per cent plunge in the first quarter operating profits in the face of a weakening market for chipmakers.

Operating profits for the months of January, February and March are expected to be “approximately 6.2 trillion won” said Samsung Electronics in a statement, which is 14 per cent lower.

A survey shows that over the past two years, 9 in 10 critical infrastructure providers have been hit by 2 or more cyber attacks. A majority of the cyber attack victims have had their environments damaged, leaving their systems out of action, after at least one attack.
