The joint Ooredoo-UNDP Hackathon 2019 announced six winning teams recently. Around 200 participants competed in this year’s competition, striving to develop new prototypes and business models over an intensive two-and-a-half-day competition hosted concurrently in Yangon and Mandalay from 18 to 20 October.

Telecom Review Leader’s Summit returns on December 10, 2019 at The Meydan Hotel in Dubai. In what has become an annual tradition, Telecom Review will honor leading ICT brands at its awards ceremony that will be held on the evening. As usual the winners will be chosen by an independent panel of 15 judges.

Beijing Municipal People's Government, National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will jointly hold the first World 5G Convention in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area from November 20th to the 23rd, 2019. The Convention aims to seize the opportunities brought by 5G technological innovation and industry reform, collect quality innovation resources and advance the growth and application of 5G. It also intends to expedite the commercialization of 5G and boost the exchange and joint advances of global 5G technologies.

At 2019 Globe Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF 2019), Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company (ZPMC), Vodafone, China Mobile and Huawei jointly released a new 5G Smart Port White Paper. The white paper provides a deep interpretation of 5G use cases in building an automation and intelligent port, aiming to accelerate application research and project commercialization.

PCCW Global, the international operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, and NAVER Business Platform (NBP), the leading IT Infrastructure and cloud services provider in South Korea providing a broad spectrum of IT services and public cloud services via the NAVER CLOUD PLATFORM, announced a bilateral interconnect collaboration to provide South Korean and multi-national enterprises direct, on-demand connections to the NAVER Business Platform with PCCW Global’s Console Connect Software-Defined Interconnection) platform.

PCCW Global, the international operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, was announced as the winner of the Communications Association of Hong Kong’s (CAHK) Awards in the “Best International Carrier” and “Digital Transformation” categories at the organisation’s 36th Anniversary Gala Dinner and STAR Award presentation which was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

Global technology leader Xiaomi announced the launch of Redmi Note 8 Series Smartphones at the launch event held at the Address Hotel, Downtown Dubai. Redmi Note 8 Pro Redmi Note 8, Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A were introduced to the attendees of the event which included Xiaomi team from UAE and China and their distribution and retail partners. Also introduced at the launch was Mi Wireless Car Charger for those on the move.

At the 10th annual Mobile Broadband Forum, Huawei Deputy Chairman Ken Hu outlined the current status of 5G development around the world. In addition to highlighting the value 5G has already brought to consumers and industries in early adopter countries, he also delved into the importance of favorable policy and cross-sector collaboration for speeding up the next stage of 5G development.

The founder of Telecom Review Asia Pacific, Toni Eid will be a keynote speaker at the Cloud and Datacenter Convention 2019 which will be held in the capital’s prestigious Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, Thailand, on the 6th of November.
