ZTE, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced, together with Wind Tre, leader of the mobile market in Italy and one of the main operators for fixed-line telecommunications, a demonstration of 5G network-based UAV HD and Panorama VR live streaming at ZTE Wireless User Congress and 5G Summit in L’Aquila, Italy.

ZTE, in partnership with Wind Tre and Open Fiber, accomplished Europe's first pre-commercial 5G network in October 2017, symbolizing a major step forward for the commercial deployment of 5G in Europe.

The demonstration adopted ZTE's commercial-oriented ultra-bandwidth and low-latency 5G mobile system, making it possible to simultaneously perform UAV HD and 360 Panorama VR live streaming.

By means of the 5G network, the 4K Panorama videos captured by the UAV camera and panorama camera are transmitted to the cloud server and then to end users. Thereby users are able to enjoy the aerial view of the UAV through the large screen and experience the panorama view with VR glasses.

Featuring ultra-high reliability, ultra-low latency, and ultra-large broadband, 5G technology will accelerate the incubation and development of innovative services.

“It is foreseeable that 5G UAV and VR live streaming will be widely used in video conferences, security monitoring, concerts, sport games and other scenes in the future,” said Mr. Xiao Ming, SVP, President of ZTE Global Sales. “ZTE and Wind Tre will further deepen cooperation so as to conduct researches and validations on 5G technical performances, network architecture, 4G/5G network integration, and 5G applications, such as AR/VR, smart city, public security, 5G health care, and Industry 4.0.”

ZTE established the L’Aquila 5G Innovation Research Center in February 2018. As one of the 5G key cities identified by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, L’Aquila was selected as one of the first 5G pilot commercial sites and planned to conduct a series of 5G verification from 2018 to 2020.

To date, ZTE has collaborated with more than 20 global high-end operators in 5G. ZTE will keep working with partners to steadily advance 5G verification which promotes global 5G commercialization.
