Patrick Sullivan, Group Vice President of International Sales (APAC, EMEA, and LATAM), Verizon delivered a keynote address to the audience at Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit 2019.

He provided an overview of how Verizon is developing network services and digital interaction with customers to make sure that they are successful in the fourth revolution. The theme of his speech was about creating our own future. He said, “We don’t wait for the future, we build it.”

According to Sullivan, there are certain elements we need to consider if we want to build our future, namely connectivity, speed, reliability, accuracy, speed and capability. “We take all of these key attributes into consideration when we are planning.”

He talked about the impact of digital transformation on business, in particular to lead in the fourth revolution. It begins with customer experience transformation, embracing the fourth revolution and listening out for new opportunities based on customer needs.

“There are opportunities coming that we have not even begun to imagine yet”, he said.

In terms of the key areas of growth, he spoke about IT services, including security. This is not just in terms of embedment in our networks but also to support the increasing number of devices and applications going over the network. Ethernet is also an area of growth, in terms of both dedicated and switched in the US and on a global basis.

With the increasing number of devices, IoT is another focus area. Wireless transport is important with the increasing number of connected cars. And finally voice, both domestically and internationally.

He explained his understanding of it, as described by Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab. It is a “fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres.”

He asked that we embrace the fourth revolution, as it will help to grow on a global scale.

“The fourth revolution is here and it’s happening. It’s changing the way we live, work and play, and it is really at such an unprecedented rate.”

“The importance of networks to deliver the future cannot be underestimated, both in the foundational technologies, and also in the transformational and disruptive technologies.”
