China shipped 25.2 million mobile phones in December 2020, representing a 12.8% decrease year-on-year, accounting for 94.8% of total mobile phone shipments in the month. For the whole year, smartphone shipments reached 295.7 million, declining 20.4% year-on-year. This represented 96% of total mobile phone shipments.

In December 2020, 40 new smartphone models were released, up 48.1% year-on-year, accounting for 88.9% of all new models released in the month. In the whole year, a total of 363 new smartphone models were released, declining 14.4% year-on-year, according to statistics released by government-backed China Academy of Information and Communications (CAICT).

Of which, domestic 5G mobile phone shipments in December reached 18.2 million, accounting for 68.4% of total shipments. In the same month, 19 new 5G models were launched, representing 42.4% of total new mobile phone models launched.

Overall, China’s domestic mobile phone shipments in December reached 26.6 million, down 12.6% year-on-year. For the whole year, domestic mobile phone shipments reached 307.9 million, representing a 20.8% drop from the previous year.
