Ericsson has expanded the broadband capabilities of Telkomcel, a mobile service provider located for Southeast Asian nation Timor-Leste (East Timor), owned by Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (TELIN), with the launch of Telkomcel’s 4G services to subscribers in Timor-Leste.

Japanese telecom operator KDDI and Samsung Electronics announced the completion of a comprehensive set of 5G tests which demonstrate the viability and performance of 5G millimeter wave mobility solutions at speeds over 190km per hour which is the fastest record in the world. The successful results highlight the potential and capability of 5G to support a wide variety of future service scenarios.

India’s largest telecom services provider, Bharti Airtel, announced a strategic partnership with South Korean telecom provider SK Telecom, under which the Indian comapny will leverage SK Telekom’s expertise to build the “most advanced telecom network in India”.

Bluesky Cook Islands, the sole provider of fixed phone, mobile and broadband services to the Cook Islands, has increased the amount of satellite capacity it is using from SES Networks, in order to launch 4G+ service to Rarotonga and Aitutaki, the two key cities of the island nation.

At the third New-Generation Internet Infrastructure Forum in Beijing, China Telecom Beijing Research Institute, China Electric Power Research Institute, and Huawei said they would cooperate on the joint basic foresight innovation project about 5G power slicing technology.

Spark, New Zealand’s largest telecom provider, announced that Cromwell, a town in the South Island, has become the latest site in the country capable of getting the fastest mobile data, as 4.5G switched on in the Otago region. The Cromwell launch follows nine other 4.5G sites in New Zealand, making a total of 10 sites, with more on the horizon.
