Nokia announced that Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT), an operator, will launch the country's first 10G fiber broadband network. 10,000 homes and businesses in the eight largest provinces of the country will be connected during the initial rollout. Nokia offers fiber modems for end users' homes as well as fiber access nodes for the operator's exchanges.

In Vietnam, fiber broadband is being introduced quickly. By 2025, fiber internet infrastructure should be available in 80% of homes and 100% of communes, according to the National Digital Transformation Programme. This was introduced by the country's Ministry of Information and Communications in September 2021.

VNPT will hold the majority of the market in 2022, according to Global Data's Vietnam Telecom Operators Country Intelligent Report, with 39.5% of the total market. The operator also provides mobile and pay-TV services in addition to residential internet. By switching to a multi-gig network, VNPT will be able to distinguish its services from the competition and keep its top spot.

With the support of this innovative technology, VNPT will be able to provide clients with an extensive range of speeds up to 10 Gb/s on the current platform without the need for new fiber to be laid.

The CEO of VNPT Net Corporation, Mr. Dang Anh Son, stated, “This project is our first step towards high-class FTTx services, which meet our residential and business customers’ demand for higher bandwidth and service quality using the latest generation XGS-PON. Next step, VNPT will work with Nokia to deploy cloud-based network management systems for the XGS-PON and enhance customer experiences through digital transformation solutions.”

Additionally, Head of Market Unit Vietnam at Nokia, Rubén Morón Flores, said, “We are proud to have been selected by VNPT for this important milestone of bringing 10G broadband to the country for the first time.

“The APAC region is the largest in the world for fiber broadband. Our multi-gig and multi-PON solution provides for incredible flexibility and scale. Vietnam has ambitious plans, and we’re delighted to be part of them,” he concluded.
