CelcomDigi has announced the consolidation of two network clusters in east Malaysia as part of its ongoing modernization program. The clusters, located in Tuaran and Menggatal, have seen the consolidation of 50 Celcom and Digi network sites, bringing the total number of sites to 108 across the two locations. This consolidation is expected to result in improved download speeds, increased data capacity and wider LTE coverage for customers in Tuaran and Menggatal.

In addition to this network consolidation, CelcomDigi has also begun a full-scale program to modernize its 4G network with the latest LTE and 5G-ready technologies. This program, which is one of the largest network deployments in Malaysia, encompasses 18,000 sites and follows the merger of Celcom and Digi in December 2022.

CelcomDigi has completed integration work in a total of 19 network clusters across various regions in Malaysia, including the central, northern, southern and eastern areas. Once the modernization and integration program is complete, coverage in populated areas is expected to improve from 96% to 98%.

To support the upgrade program and existing networks, CelcomDigi plans to reinvest 15% to 18% of its total revenue in capital expenditure (CAPEX), as revealed in its Q1 results.
