Maxis has announced a significant expansion of its fiber network infrastructure in Penang, aiming to connect over 100,000 homes in the state by 2027. The rollout will cover all districts of Penang, focusing on high-demand urban areas like Jelutong, George Town, Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas, and Bayan Baru, as well as key locations in Mainland Penang.
A launch event took place at Dewan MPKK Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan, officiated by YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, and Goh Seow Eng, CEO of Maxis.

This initiative highlights Maxis’s commitment to supporting Penang’s digital agenda in line with the Penang2030 vision of becoming a family-focused, green, and smart state.

The expansion of Maxis’s fiber network in Penang was made possible by the Last Mile Connectivity Guidelines introduced by the Penang State Government, streamlining pole-sharing guidelines for faster deployment of fiber networks.
Maxis currently operates a fiber network spanning over 23,000 kilometers nationwide, serving more than half a million homes. Maxis plans to continue expanding its fiber network to meet the growing demand for high-speed internet access. As the rollout progresses in Penang, the network will benefit both residents and businesses, driving greater digitalization in the state.
