Telkomsel Expands Hyper 5G Network

Telkomsel has officially expanded its Hyper 5G network coverage in Makassar City, South Sulawesi, by introducing 73 new 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) at key locations.

This move highlights Telkomsel’s dedication to offering faster and more widespread digital connectivity for communities, households, and local businesses. The deployment of 5G BTS is concentrated in areas with high mobility and strong economic potential, such as shopping centers, residential areas, industrial zones, tourist attractions, Telkomsel GraPARI, and Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport.

Telkomsel’s Network Director, Indra Mardiatna, said, “We want to ensure that the benefits of Telkomsel’s leading and widest 5G network are available inclusively to everyone, all homes, and business activities. The 5G ecosystem in Makassar is increasingly mature, so the massive and continuous expansion of Hyper 5G coverage without interruption is crucial. In the future, we will continue to accelerate the expansion of 5G to a number of major cities/regencies in Papua, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, including industrial areas such as mining, to encourage economic growth and digital transformation in East Indonesia.”

As of April 2025, data shows that 21% of devices in Makassar are 5G-enabled, with the average national data consumption per user reaching 15 GB per month. Internal network tests have shown Hyper 5G download speeds of up to 514 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 77 Mbps, which are five times faster than 4G networks.

Since launching 5G services in 2021, Telkomsel has set up over 2,500 5G BTS in 56 cities/regencies in Indonesia, including Denpasar, Bandung, Jabodetabek, and Surabaya. Telkomsel is not just expanding physical networks like BTS and fiber optics but also enhancing digital connectivity in Makassar and nearby areas. This includes creating new digital opportunities for e-commerce, online education, telemedicine, digital financial services, and online entertainment content. The transformation in the eastern region, which was previously behind digitally, is now progressing rapidly, thanks to Telkomsel’s efforts.
