Singtel Pioneers 5G Network Slicing for iPhones

5G Network Slicing

Singtel has announced that it is the first telecommunications company in Asia to introduce network slicing, enhancing the performance of business applications for enterprise users on compatible iPhone and iPad models.

This upgrade ensures users experience seamless and uninterrupted connectivity, as well as improved performance for essential applications, even in heavily congested network environments.

Enterprises can take advantage of a dedicated slice of Singtel’s 5G network when using applications that utilize Apple’s traffic categories, such as streaming and communication, or those managed through a supported mobile device management (MDM) system.

This feature is powered by an advanced User Equipment Route Selection Policy, which prioritizes data traffic and allocates specific network resources to enhance connectivity. It is especially useful for applications that require high data performance, consistent bandwidth, and low latency, such as those used for workplace productivity and enterprise communications. Singtel will provide a dedicated slice for voice and video productivity applications like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, FaceTime, WhatsApp, and others, as well as managed business applications via MDM, addressing the unique needs of various industries.

Ng Tian Chong, CEO of Singtel Singapore, stated, “We’re committed to supporting the ambitions of our enterprise customers by developing innovative solutions, which allow them to drive productivity and scale their businesses. As enterprises increasingly rely on collaboration tools and high-quality communications, our enhanced 5G app-based network slicing, now extended to support iPhone and iPad, enables them to work smarter, adapt faster, and stay ahead in an ever-evolving digital landscape.”

5G Network Slicing is available for iPhone 14 and later models running iOS 18.2 or higher, as well as select iPad models running iPadOS 18.2 or above.

Leading the way in 5G innovation, Singtel was the first telecommunications company globally to achieve nationwide 5G standalone (5G SA) coverage, including all shopping malls and transport hubs across Singapore’s Mass Rapid Transit network. Currently, its 5G coverage extends to over 1,700 outdoor and 1,000 indoor locations.

Earlier this year, Singtel became the first, and only, telecommunications provider in Singapore to deploy the 700 MHz spectrum, further enhancing its 5G network. This upgrade offers up to 40% better coverage in high-rise buildings, indoor and underground spaces, as well as in remote areas throughout Singapore, improving network reliability and quality for all users at no extra cost.
