Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) is the second telco to acquire 5G spectrum this month, having reportedly won the auction for the 3700-3800 MHz band.

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) recently held an auction for the 3700-3800 MHz band. According to reports, VNPT was the sole winner of the spectrum license, which is valid for 15 years.

Efficiently Deploying 5G/6G in Vietnam

A representative from VNPT reportedly stated that winning the auction for the C2 band block is significant. This victory enables VNPT to explore various network equipment options, ultimately leading to the most cost-effective and efficient deployment of 5G in Vietnam.

Along with the 3700-3800 MHz, VNPT owns the 1800 MHz, which will be a significant advantage in promoting the 5G network in the future while also laying the groundwork for the development of a 6G network.

The bidding is the first step towards deploying 5G in Vietnam. After winning the bid for 3700-3800 MHz, VNPT will accelerate preparations for the successful commercialization of 5G.

At the same time, VNPT will encourage collaboration with other network operators to optimize resources and provide customers with the best 5G experience possible.

Developing a Robust Digital Ecosystem

VNPT mentioned that the company has been working around the clock to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for developing a digital ecosystem of products and services to fully leverage the power of 5G.

VNPT confirmed that it will provide 5G services in the industrial sector, including cloud, IoT, AI, ML, and data analytics, as well as a range of IoT applications and digital services to the general public.

The Authority of Radio Frequency Management under the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication (MIC) has set the starting price for the frequency band for a 15-year period of use at VNĐ 1.95 trillion. The winner is required to deploy at least 30% of the committed number of transceiver stations within the first two years. In a previous development, an auction scheduled for frequency 3800-3900 MHz, known as C3, was canceled due to a lack of qualified bidders.
