China Mobile International Limited (CMI) today officially launched its Singapore data center. Built and fully-owned by CMI, the six-floor facility is its first overseas data center and the second in its Asia Pacific cloud network. The launch marks another key milestone in the build-out of CMI's global network and carries far-reaching implications, supporting the growing digital economy in the Asia Pacific region, driving global high-speed connections and helping lay the groundwork for the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.

Spirit has today announced the acquisition of Phoenix Austec Group Pty Ltd, trading as Phoenix Austec, in a $1.6 million deal. The announcement comes less than a month after Spirit’s acquisition of Arinda IT and will see the company continue to expand and strengthen its entry into the Managed IT Service Provider (MSP) sector, while at the same time becoming a one-stop-shop for SMBs across Australia’s East Coast for all their IT, Internet and Communications needs.

Singapore’s fourth telco TPG Telecom has responded to a study conducted by Opensignal, a global mobile analytics company which found that TPG’s network speeds were significantly slower than its competitors M1, StarHub and Singtel.

Chinese telcos have recently proposed the possibility of building partnerships with one another to expand on the 5G mobile network in an effort to reduce costs. The three major telcos involved, China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom are hurtling towards deploying 5G services over 50 cities, just behind the United States and South Korea who have already began acting on their promises to bolster new technology.
