Bourbon, a world leader in marine services for offshore oil and gas, has signed a contract committing more than 100 offshore support vessels (OSVs) to Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress, the maritime broadband service that combines the speed of Ka-band with continuous back up from Inmarsat’s FleetBroadband operating on L-band.

Global data analytics company Experian has recently announced a strategic investment partnership with Mumbai-based mobile marketing startup Vserv that will give Experian an important minority stake as well as access to new telecom-based customer information provided by Vserv.

Reports have surfaced stating that US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced that licenses would be coming “very shortly” for American companies to sell components to Huawei. Ross said the government received more than 260 requests, noting that they “are more than we’ve expected.”

The joint Ooredoo-UNDP Hackathon 2019 announced six winning teams recently. Around 200 participants competed in this year’s competition, striving to develop new prototypes and business models over an intensive two-and-a-half-day competition hosted concurrently in Yangon and Mandalay from 18 to 20 October.

The Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) introduced its latest 5G Market Snapshot that shows the 50th commercial 5G network has now launched, following the recent switch on of services in China where China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom all went live and have already registered more than 9 million 5G subscribers.

Beijing Municipal People's Government, National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will jointly hold the first World 5G Convention in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area from November 20th to the 23rd, 2019. The Convention aims to seize the opportunities brought by 5G technological innovation and industry reform, collect quality innovation resources and advance the growth and application of 5G. It also intends to expedite the commercialization of 5G and boost the exchange and joint advances of global 5G technologies.
