He also mentioned plans to meet with Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to discuss measures that intend to improve the adoption rate of 5G services.

He stated that the meeting would also include Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz; Digital Minister, Gobind Singh Deo; and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Chairman, Tan Sri Mohamad Salim bin Fateh Din.

“My hope is [that] towards the end of this month or early next month, we will have several significant and major announcements regarding the 5G network,” the Communications Minister reportedly said. “I hope that, with the availability of this 5G service, the people will benefit from it."

He also discussed efforts to boost the adoption of the 5G network among industry players, highlighting the importance of focusing on the industrial sector to drive growth, as outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan, which aims to position Malaysia as an attractive destination for foreign investment, particularly within the semiconductor and data processing sectors.

Fahmi also stated that the MCMC is reviewing the ‘5G Rahmah’ package for university students to encourage more young people to adopt 5G.

Notably, according to the latest figures from Malaysia's Ministry of Communications, 5G penetration was close to 30% by the end of January 2024.
